Day 7 - Last Full Day

Today was our last day. We spend most of the day at the beach getting as much sun as we could. Here are a few photos from the past few days.

Rum Point is very colorful...

And they have the best Rum drinks :)

This sign speaks for itself...

Here we are at dinner on Wednesday night... oops, sorry got a little out of order.

Here is the Barefoot Man...

Doesn't Eddie look fabulous!

We were on our way out on Friday night...

Here is us at dinner... we ate at a great little bar not far from our place.
So tomorrow we will have a long traveling day, but we are planning to get up early to enjoy just one more walk along the beautiful beach before we have to say good-bye.

It's been an awesome vacation! Thanks Eddie!

Day 5 & 6 - Busy Being Lazy

Wednesday morning we found out that the snorkeling excursion was canceled because the water was choppy, so we decided to just hit the beach for the day. Eddie snorkeled and I walked some, but mostly enjoyed a book and a rum punch. At 3:00, a gray cloud passed over with a couple of raindrops, and figured it was our sign to get out of the sun. We changed then drove just a mile or two down the road to a cute little art store we kept passing and bought a few trinkets. It was right across the street from a nice looking restaurant called Portifinos so decided we were ready for dinner even though it was only 5:00. It was delicious except for the rum coffee drink that Eddie had with dessert... bleh... too strong. On the drive back we decided to take a little drive past our place to see where it would lead us, and found it to be a very nice ride along the north coast. Beautiful homes and we finally found another restaurant that we had been looking for called Over the Edge. Found out this one is open for breakfast, so decide to come back in the morning. We get back to our place and there is a one man band playing at the beach bar. He is ok. We dance just a bit, then call it a night.

Thursday morning we had breakfast out, then drove to Rum Point. It's a pretty little beach on the northwest tip of West Bay. We walked and just hung out... and of course had to try a rum drink while we were there. A little shopping in the gift shop, then we have to get back... because we had our Spa appointments at 2:00. Let me just say, if you have never had a hot stone massage, I highly recommend it! Dinner was at our resort while we watched The Barefoot Man for a 3 hour show. He was great! A glass of wine and after that massage, I was very relaxed when we ended our night.

Sorry, no photos this morning... I'm heading down to the beach to get as much sun, surf and sand as I can on my last full day here. :)

Day 3 - Let's Shop!

It's Monday. We go to the sales talk to get a really good coupon to use on our Tuesday adventure, then it's off to town. We stop and take photos along the way. Parking in town was a little challenging, but we finally found a spot where we were safe from "the boot". We are ready for lunch so we decide to hit Margaritaville for a Cheeseburger in Paradise. Very tasty. We sat outside on the balcony facing the harbour. After we walked and shopped and shopped and walked. I only bought a few trinkets, not too much.

Back at the resort, it's BBQ on the Beach night, with a fun DJ. I made it to the final round of Name that Tune... only because it was 70's music.

Here's our cute little car in front of our resort...

You have to be very careful when driving in the Caymans...

Here we are at lunch...

Margaritaville...

Day 2 - photos

Here is our spot on the beach looking from our balcony...

Snorkeling silliness....

More silliness...
That's it for tonight... Look for my update in the morning.

Day 2 - Paradise Found

After spending a very quiet and relaxing morning watching the sunrise and sipping coffee on my balcony, Eddie and I headed to a complimentary breakfast and short resort information talk. They had a few give-aways at the end and I won a cool beach towel.

Then it was beach time! We positioned a couple of chairs and got settled in for the day. After about an hour, decide to snorkel. The current was strong, so we walked down to the next resort's pier floated back to our own pier. We saw some amazing fish! Under the first pier was a school of some huge silver fish, about 3 foot long! The blues, purples and yellows of the tropical fish are always so neat to see. I am more out of shape then I realized and Eddie swallowed a big gulf of salt water, but still enjoyed our adventure.

After that, we had a light lunch on our balcony, then made a few plans with our activity director. Our week is going to be busy, but definitely fun! I'm not telling yet what we have planned, so you will have to check back later. Back to the beach for a nap in the sun. I had been nursing a headache since I woke up (my migraines have recently returned), so I decided to get out of the sun and take a real nap in my room. Eddie walked the beach and swam in the pool while I napped.

Dinner was at this cute little place not far called The Lighthouse. I had lasagna and Eddie had seabass cheeks.... who knew fish had cheeks... but she said they were delicious. I still wasn't feeling very well, so we decided to return home and I went straight to bed.

The headache is hanging on this morning, but today we are heading to town to shop since this is the only day with no cruise ships in port. Being a cruiser myself, I do know how crazy an island can get on cruise days.

Sorry for no photos yet, but I will get a few up later this afternoon. I'm giving Eddie computer lessons also while we are here.

Day 1 - Welcome to Grand Cayman!

We are here and it's so beautiful!

I'm traveling with one of my oldest and dearest friends, Edna. We have been friends since high school so that's how far we go back. Although we only seem to see each other about once or twice a year and we live close, I figured out that our friendship is just like watching a soap opera that you see once a year and know all of the characters and can catch right back up in no time.

Our travels began on Friday night when we drove to a hotel near the airport and had a great dinner at Longhorn. We each had a couple of drinks to celebrate the start of our trip, then headed off to bed since 4:00 am was going to come fast.

We have packed entirely too much luggage, but who cares! A quick shuttle, we give our bags to the government for inspection, get thru security quickly, grab some breakfast and on the plane in what seemed like no time at all. Quick change in Charottle and landed on the island right on time, probably early but I could care less about time at this point. We breezed thru customs (well, I did... Eddie's guy decided to look thru her laptop briefcase), then rent the cutest little car... although I was worried that our luggage wouldn't fit inside it, LOL! Eddie is our driver for the week, since I don't think I could handle the steering wheel on the wrong side while driving on the left. We checked in and our activity director Laura handed us each a Rum Punch. We decided took the drinks right out the door to the beach.... ahhhhhhh..... life is good! We sit and enjoy our tasty cocktails, the smell of the sea, the soft sand and the warm sunshine! Back thru the lobby to get another Rum Punch, chat with Laura, quick browse thru the gift shop, then we are off to unload and find our rooms. I'm not really sure I sure call them rooms... actually we each have our own apartment with a connecting foyer. I have the one with the full kitchen and living room and Eddie has the one with the big whirlpool tub and we each have a big balcony. We unpack and hit the grocery store. Let me say right to my dear Rick at home.... I cannot be held accountable for this money conversion thing because I've never been able to do math in my head! We had dinner right at the bar on the beach, walked in the sand and out onto a very nice lighted pier, then dipped our feet in the hottub before calling it a night.

Here is my room....

Here is Eddie's room...

Our balconies...

The view from our balcony...

A little more view....

The sunrise....

That's it.... I'm just going to sit and enjoy my coffee in this paradise and plan to relax on the beach all day.
